The July 17, 1936 initiated a coup against the government Popular Front, born of the polls in February. His failure to dominate the whole country gave rise to civil war as Spain was divided between advocates of democratic legality and their abusers. This triggered a vicious conflict with nearly half a million dead between the front and rear. The death toll produced in the rear, more than 140,000, was almost as numerous as originated at the front lines-about 160,000-which shows the great extent of terror deployed away from the lines combat.
